About the Author Michael E. Miller received his PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida, with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He holds Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Administration. He is currently an assistant professor in the School of Legal Studies at South College in Knoxville, Tennessee where he teaches Criminal Justice courses. Previously he taught Criminal Justice and Sociology courses as an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Florida. In November 2007 he retired from the Orange County Sheriff?s Office in Orlando, Florida after 25 years of service, holding the rank of Captain. During his career he worked in Uniformed Patrol, Special Investigations (Narcotics), and Criminal Investigations. He has held leadership and management positions as Patrol Supervisor, Narcotics Unit Sergeant, Special Investigations Division Lieutenant, Uniformed Patrol Sector Commander, and Criminal Investigations Division Major Case Commander. He is a 1999 graduate of the Southern Police Institute?s (SPI) Administrative Officers? Course at the University of Louisville. Read more
